Gadget: PakeKeeper, the perfect bookmark?

Are you looking for the perfect Christmas gift for the book lover you in your life? Check out the PageKeeper from the Piedmont Group. The maker of the PageKeeper calls it ‘The Amazing “Automatic” Bookmark!’. While I don’t know if I would go so far as to call it amazing it is the best bookmark I have ever used. Here is my brief lists of pros and cons:

Pros:

  • The PageKeeper slips easily into place on the back cover of just about any book you would want to read (hard and soft cover) and stays firmly in place unlike traditional bookmarks that have a nasty habit of falling out.
  • The PageKeeper allows for easy page changes while still holding pages securely making sure that you always (almost) keep your place.

Cons:

  • The PageKeeper can damage book covers when being put on or taken off (scratch or crease) so you should be cautious with books you like.
  • The PageKeeper can tear flimsier paper when changing pages due to the strength of the spring. This is a problem I ran into with mostly older (20+ year) trade paperbacks that were printed on very light weight paper.
  • The PageKeeper is limited by its size to books of a reasonable size (less than 2 inches thick).

Verdict:

The PageKeeper is the best bookmark that I have ever used. It isn’t quite perfect (i.e. I have ripped a couple of book pages and scratched a book cover or two) but I can’t imagine going back to reading without one.
